2K Hires Apex Legends Developer to Boost Troubled Action Game Ambitious Title
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Shift Comes After Poor Feedback
The new appointee assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing early showing last fall.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a distinct direction.
The president stated that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to address player expectations.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
The news echoes a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the complete message from the president's announcement:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and creative developers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to endure.”
With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s the game demo was enlightening. It affirmed the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the requirement for a clearer identity.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the input to mind and reimagined the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its ambition to our audience.
Our confidence in this project increases every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the latest Director of 31st Union. After several months of talks, he starts with us on next week.
His leadership and background in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having devoted the past decade and a half producing and managing some of the most popular series in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in greeting him soon. We are all looking forward to keep seeing the development of the game in the weeks to ahead.
David
Experience of the Incoming Head

He previously worked at major gaming companies in various development positions on the iconic franchise series, and, before that, had assignments at other industry leaders.
Title Details and Vision
The upcoming game was revealed in last year alongside a early access event. At the time, 31st Union presented the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative step forward on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the description states. "Challenge the competition with fresh skills, challenges, and obstacles that evolve every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Or go big, risk it all, and trust your team can achieve the highest spot? The option is yours."
Project Ethos does not have an announced launch window or supported systems, but enthusiasts can expect further news as creation continues.
