After weeks of tension, plots and sabotage, Celebrity Traitors has reached a thrilling end
Spoiler alert - This piece discloses details from The Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, audiences saw eliminations, betrayals, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that pierced all suspense.
However on Thursday night, the final winner of the first Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
From nineteen participants, just a handful remained: Deceivers and loyal players competing for the prize.
Before long, the field narrowed to just three: the remaining contestants.
Ultimately, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the winner, in a surprising outcome that went viral and left him emotional.
"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he declared, revealing to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been one of the deceivers. "I feel terrible about this."
"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "It's all right."
Social media immediately exploded with the news. "The worst deceiver being the most effective player," wrote one user.
"There could not have been a more iconic ending," wrote a different person, while a third described it as "the television highlight of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, will receive the entire winnings, with the final pot amounting to eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
The comedian's evolution from giggle liability to cold-hearted killer was among the most memorable aspects of the series.
But his win still shocked viewers surprised, as noted by entertainment reporters.
"The idea of Alan, among everyone, executing a masterclass in deceit felt just as probable as him keeping a straight face through his comedy routines."
During follow-up conversations, the other contestants explained the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.
"Alan could have appeared to breakfast in a green cloak and I wouldn't have believed he was deceiving us. I was too busy laughing," one participant said.
"The majority didn't target him because how can you vote for someone who is so charming?" questioned another celebrity.
The winner stated he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the program.
"I want to do it again... I doubt it would be successful a second time!"
The final episode was extended to 70 minutes on television. It had an unusual opening than usual, as all the celebs knew who'd make it at the breakfast table.
There was some very uplifting, and atypical for the show soundtrack, as the episode revisited some moments from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
True to form, the comedian provided unforgettable quotes.
"To be honest, I began this game as something of a nervous wreck. I've betrayed close allies under the bus, I've murdered national treasures in plain sight. Apparently I'm a better liar and traitor than I thought."
At the same time, another contestant noted that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than playing for England", while someone else said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.
In the beginning of the finale, various contestants seemed to be making a bid to become the fashion standout of the competition, taking over from the previously eliminated style leader.
Carr emerged at breakfast looking like a 1950s US chat show host in a checked maroon suit, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got outstyled by a fellow player's maroon velvet tuxedo. What a look.
Next up was the competition, with the remaining contestants boarding a train named - naturally - The Traitors Express.
This task involved destroying images of former contestants. Have sympathy for a player who was hit on the head multiple times by the lid of a substantial container.
Soon after, the moment arrived for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors made a pact in advance, pledging to support each other. "We've come a long way, I won't betray him," stated a player, while their partner just giggled.
And one adhered to his promise. But, managing to stay under the radar for the majority of the competition, their partner still received the majority elimination votes.
The last deceiver appeared to be experiencing significant distress to be the last traitor standing. "Being alone, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, a rudderless ship."
Social media and onlookers were equally disappointed.
"I hoped against this contestant to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," said a commentator.
"Your legacy will remain in Traitors history," wrote another user.
But there was little opportunity to dwell on their elimination. Soon, the game reached the final stage - which was what we were really all here for.
The last players stood over the fire pit. And the alliance broke down, precisely when it mattered the most, in an absolutely shocking development.
A player was painfully banished - after a shock vote from their ally, who betrayed them.
"It hurts to be betrayed at the final moment like that," said the eliminated player. Later, we learned that if they ever communicate, the betrayed player refers to their former ally as a traitor.
Ultimately, only three contestants remained in the game: the last participants.
One player, appearing quite pleased, chose to conclude the game. So did a different player, and it all came down to the third, who did the same - resulting in the traitor emerged victorious.
For observers, the scene where remaining contestants consoled the champion was "compelling television". "I anticipate it could be in the running for memorable moment at television honors," they commented.
Fortunately, the winner quickly regained composure from his bout of tears, and was able to enjoy the moment.
"Such an emotional journey. I was awful at lying, my expressions gave me away and now I stand a winner," the winner said.
He also joked about the memorable elimination - his close ally during the initial stages - by leaning toward the presenter in the final scene and making contact.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The recent episodes of celebrity gossiping, plotting and sometimes surprising incidents may seem like one big crazy jumbled dream. But it really did occur. And we will miss it.
