Alleged Harasser Questioned: 'However What If I Could Be Madeleine?'
A female accused with harassing Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a phone message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has persistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the court was told phone records and data retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a DNA test during the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - at the age of three during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most publicized child disappearance cases and remains unsolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
One voicemail, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt declaring: "I know I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I believe what I know."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone stated: "Imagine there is a small chance that I am she? What happens next? Is that not important for you?"
"I don't want money, I maintain a existence here in Poland, I only wish to discover," the message continued.
The jury was advised that by means of emails, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a DNA test, sent childhood photos to her phone in a bid to show a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a childhood with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an intelligence analyst with law enforcement who collated the data, informed the court there "seemed to lack any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, according to the phone records.
On that date, the father responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."
During that incident Ms Wandelt left a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone stating "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my point."
The court was informed the co-defendant struck up a association via internet with Ms Wandelt prior to accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' property in Leicestershire in December 2024.
Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had contacted via WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the media had characterized Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the period before the visit to the village, Leicestershire, in that winter.
The court learned correspondence between the two individuals, in November 2024, planning attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her trash or from utensils at a dining venue.
"We need to assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the trip to their house, Mrs Spragg transmitted a text which expressed: "We find ourselves sitting adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our headlights off similar to private investigators. I desired to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The trial proceeds.
