Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just eight real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players seeking different ways to enjoy the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Responses: Anger to Support

"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
