Brendon McCullum Completes Ashes Support Team with Australian David Saker's Return

England's coach Brendon McCullum has confirmed his support personnel in preparation for the Ashes, featuring David Saker from Australia coming back to assist England for a fourth Test campaign facing his home nation.

David Saker's Position and Timeline

The coach, formally titled as expert skills consultant, is scheduled for Australia starting with the England Lions' arrival at the start of November and continue with the primary team during the entire five-Test series.

New Zealand's Tim Southee, holding a similar position since May presently with the white-ball group within New Zealand, will carry on with the team until the end of the first Test in Perth.

Other Team Additions

An additional returnee includes Gilbert Enoka, ex-All Blacks mindset coach, initially introduced to the squad preparing for the Test against India at Old Trafford in July.

Based in Christchurch, is assisting the white-ball team participating in the initial Ashes Test.

Squad Meetings and Athlete Responses

Recently, Enoka conducted a one-hour workshop for all players and support personnel, as they finalised preparations for the T20 series against New Zealand that starts on Saturday.

Harry Brook, earlier committing to skip conferences as limited-overs captain, stated Enoka was “brilliant”.

“It’s something we want to try to keep to ourselves,” he said. “He offers extensive psychological game insights. To have him in the ranks, just to be able to have a chat for five or 10 minutes, is awesome.”

Existing Backroom Team

The long-term batting coach Marcus Trescothick and the spin-bowling coach Jeetan Patel, another New Zealander, will persist in their positions.

Saker's Previous Experience

Saker, now 59, previously acted as England's quick bowling instructor during 2010-2015, when England secured Ashes victory in Australia.

Later, he occupied a similar position with Australia between 2016 and 2019 before returning to work with England in 2023.

Player Endorsements

On Friday, Brook praised Southee’s contribution within the squad.

“His knowledge is extensive,” stated Brook. “Having played extensively here and globally, his involvement greatly advantages us.
