Edwards along with O'Neil represent the initial names under consideration to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolves.
Pereira was dismissed on the weekend after the squad's 10-match without a victory beginning to the Premier League campaign.
And both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves leadership.
The manager is currently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.
However the ex- Luton head coach - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is considered a leading candidate for the vacancy.
The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves board as they begin the search of appointing a fresh head coach.
O'Neil is additionally emerging as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a shock choice considering he was released by the club in December last year.
The ex- West Ham player is currently unemployed which means the club would not be required to pay any compensation.
