Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. Rice was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
