Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.
Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
