Mario's Galactic Adventure Preview Debuts, Unveiling New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Actors
Nintendo alongside Illumination unveiled the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. This occurred during a special Nintendo Direct that highlighted the upcoming animated film.
The follow-up to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will transport Mario to the distant reaches of the galaxy. There, he will encounter a fresh princess character and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.
A Space-Faring Quest Based on Iconic Releases
In the vein of the games from the Wii period that act as its source material, Mario will depart from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. During his grand adventure, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, including the Luma, a fan favorite from the first movie.
Yet it looks like Mario and his brother Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who seemingly commands metallic abilities. Worth mentioning, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also includes nods to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers
The film will welcome back of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. It was announced by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
Mario's Major Moment
The new Mario movie is scheduled to arrive near the 40th anniversary of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 promises to be a major period for Mario and his companions.
The company has a trio of new releases officially announced for 2026, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
