Live Match Coverage

21 mins: Fierce Action as Both Teams Battle

21st minute: The Broncos advance to halfway and almost pierce the defensive line via Walsh and Shibasaki on the left flank. Another superb kick from Reynolds on the last tackle maintains the Broncos' momentum. Over three plays they remain in control, but some quick passes release the speedy Jahrome Hughes, and when he's brought down on the defensive 40m line, a six-again is given for holding down. The Storm are now in rhythm, and William Warbrick slices through the defense, followed by Xavier Coates making a sprint – only for Walsh to catch him high with a shoulder charge! Is that a sin-binning? No, rules Atkins, because the winger was dropping low. Walsh is under review regardless, and Melbourne resume their attack.

19 mins: Cameron Munster Directs Storm Attack

19th minute: Cameron Munster is busy as Melbourne charge quickly down to their attacking 30m line. On the right side, Jahrome Hughes kicks high, Katoa rushes up, but in the marking contest, the forward knocks on, and the Broncos at last get a respite.

18 mins: Storm Apply Force on Broncos

18 mins: The Storm execute a perfect restart set and apply significant pressure on Deine Mariner with the last tackle kick. Again, the Broncos fail to reach near halfway in reply, and Adam Reynolds is compelled to kick long to stay in the game.

17th Minute: Injury for Storm

17th minute: It’s not all good news for Melbourne. Jack Howarth has been replaced due to a groin issue. Wishart is on in his position.

CONVERTED TRY! Melbourne 12-6 Broncos (Eliesa Katoa, 15)

Spectacular, absolutely stunning. Following consecutive set restarts, Brisbane are flagging. On the third play close to the line on the left, Melbourne send the ball inside for two passes before Hughes drops the ball onto his toe and the charging Eliesa Katoa times his run perfectly to dive on the loose ball and rise to mark his side's second touchdown!

From slightly right of the posts, Nick Meaney converts his second conversion.

12th Minute: Melbourne Display Exciting Offense

12th minute: Melbourne appear dynamic in offense. They have pace from the play-the-ball, grunt from the forwards, and sharp passing from the backs. A threatening move concludes with a high kick to the left side that is knocked on by Walsh and results in a penalty to the Melbourne for an obstruction on Coates. Melbourne reject the penalty goal and get to work under the posts. They get a set restart – and a further one – as Cameron Munster dances side to side.

10th Minute: Tense Play

10th minute: Stefano Utoikamanu has lived up to his word from the start and his carry from the kickoff enables Harry Grant, then Ryan Papenhuyzen, to dart from acting half. Hughes kicks from 40m and Reece Walsh secures the high kick on his 10m line. The Broncos show less penetration this drive and get fortunate on the last when Ben Hunt's pass to Adam Reynolds is dropped. Not to worry, the veteran halfback delivers a great kick to turn Coates around and forces the Melbourne wing to run from his try line. The Broncos are too eager with their chase, hitting the Queenslander with a high tackle, and Melbourne can kick for favorable territory.

SUCCESSFUL TRY! Storm 6-6 Brisbane (Nick Meaney, 8)

From the scrum, Utoikamanu powers forward to the 20-meter line. Then, from fast play off the back, every key Storm player handle the ball as they move it out to the right hand side until Nick Meaney cuts inside, angles in at high speed, and breaks through a weak defensive line to score for an instant reply!

Meaney dusts himself down to kick the goal. We have a shootout!

7 mins: Both Sides Exchange Sets

7th minute: The two teams trade conservative sets either side of halfway, but then the Brisbane attempt to attack on their left, only to fail to find Gehamat Shibasaki with the pass. Warbrick advances quickly and forces a knock on for his troubles.

5th Minute: Dream Start for Brisbane

5 mins: This marks the absolute dream start for the Broncos, scoring first before the Storm have even touched the ball, in an offensive play led by both Payne Haas and Reece Walsh. The Melbourne might be somewhat frustrated at Grant Atkins blowing such an quick infringement, but they were clearly breached by the blistering Broncos attack.

CONVERTED TRY! Storm 0-6 Broncos (Deine Mariner, 3)

After kicking downfield, the Broncos begin their attack. Melbourne give away a set restart for offside, and quickly the ball is in the danger area. Where is Walsh? Lurking on the right side, attracting Jack Howarth, holding his position, then someway offloading to Mariner on his outside. The winger steps inside, crosses the try line, then just, only just remains in the playing area as he moves to score under the posts.

A review occurs before Adam Reynolds kicks the conversion, but the Bunker confirms the on-field decision. The venue is erupting to the sound of ecstatic Queenslanders.

2nd Minute: Early Infringement

2 mins: Corey Jensen, not Payne Haas, makes the initial carry of the match and Melbourne are quick to tackle… but just three tackles later the Melbourne give away the first penalty of the night for Grant impeding Payne Haas on the ground. Brisbane right away in offensive mode.
