The former Liverpool manager admits rejoining to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign that included a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown in 30 years, has since taken on roles as head of global soccer for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the league title in the previous campaign, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would embrace the idea that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he told the podcast host: “I declared I won't manage any other side within the country. Which implies should it be the Reds...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests the choice could be mine down the line, who knows. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about what circumstances would have to unfold to tempt his return to the touchline, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing under bad weather through long matches; No need for press conferences four times, three times a week or constant media duties weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, however, dining out with the team having a nice chat, that’s nice. Success was frequent meaning regularly positive atmosphere around the place. I still have the captain's chuckle vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship last term. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in every contest after a summer spending spree, though he denied the notion of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. An outstanding player. Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly about the death of Jota, a player he signed during his tenure, along with the consequences for the team. The Portugal international lost his life in a road accident with his brother recently.
“Can you substitute such an individual? It goes beyond his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the team environment absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A profound tragedy for his teammates also. Not a single person would cite it for poor performances though it's a fact. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Dealing with that individually is challenging. Unbearable.”
