The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Series on BBC
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode season written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The previous season wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to tackle corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
