The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this endearing family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
