World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.

The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included retaining the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.

A Year of Consistency

Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.

The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the entire year as the world number one, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.

In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.

Record-Breaking Numbers

Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and collected a record £11m in earnings.

She earned almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.

Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a new level".

Additional WTA Award Honorees

• Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking a extended hiatus after the arrival of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
• Rookie of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
• Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
• Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five championship matches.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
