Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the ALCS.
Trailing three runs to one, the star outfielder delivered a three-run homer in the seventh, leading the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, our city, our country," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "This is such an amazing experience."
George Springer has now hit 23 October home runs, placing him third on the list after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another person in the world that I'd choose in that moment besides Springer with his October magic," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, remain the only MLB franchise never to appear in a championship series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" after his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their performance throughout the year.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we had to come out on the losing end of this one," he added.
Toronto secured the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the first game on Friday.
